Nursing Beyond the Bedside is a free LinkedIn networking group that is open to nurses with experience, questions and interest across all disciplines in non bedside nursing.

This free networking group is a community of nurses working in, or interested in, non bedside / non clinical nursing, including: nurse case management, utilization review, appeals/denials, clinical documentation improvement, risk management, HEDIS, quality improvement, medical record review, nurse informatics, nurse education and any non bedside nursing profession. The group is a place for nursing professionals to ask questions, share experiences, read current news and find jobs and career advice in non bedside nursing.

There are so many networking groups for nurses, why create another one?

There are many networking groups for nurses on the Internet, but most focus on nursing education and staff / bedside nursing.

While there are a few networking groups for non bedside nursing, most are focused on specific disciplines within non bedside nursing such as:

First Survey to Look at Case Management and Non-Bedside Nursing Salaries in New York and New Jersey

Pathway Medical Staffing recently released the second annual RN Salary Survey of Case Managers and Non-Bedside Nurses.  While there are several published surveys that detail salary trends for nurses, few look at the registered nurse subset in non-clinical / non-bedside nursing.

This survey examines salaries for experienced registered nurses in New York and New Jersey working in the following areas:

• Case Management
• Appeals / Denials
• Utilization Review
• Quality Improvement
• Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI)

The data analyzed in the survey is drawn from documented base salary data for hundreds of registered nurses in these specific non-bedside nursing positions.

2011 Registered Nurse Salary Survey Highlights:

“Average salary in 2010 for a non-bedside registered nurse in the New York Metro area was $88,194, up 5.5% from 2009.”

“More experience in non-clinical nursing does not always equate to a higher salary.”

“Salaries in case management and utilization review were up over 7.5% as these specialties have an increasing impact on the bottom line.”

“Director level salaries in case management and non-bedside nursing were up 5% in 2010.”

“Registered Nurse work-from-home salaries averaged $69,000 per year since 2008.”

“The patient centered medical home model emerges as a new sector; paying an average non-bedside nursing salary that outranks hospital and managed care organizations.”

“Unionized employers, hospital closings and RNs accepting lower salaries create gap in NJ and NYC average wages.”

A new survey from The Commonwealth Fund reveals that  72% of Americans think that the health care system needs a major overhaul.

Some of the other study findings include:

* 71 percent of U.S. adults report problems gaining access to needed health care which includes the ability to get advice from doctors

* 47% reported poor coordinated care

* 54% reported wasteful care

* 74% are worried that they won’t get high quality care when they need it
